Needless to say, you’ve probably come across numerous magazines and other resources that suggest you find a workout buddy when you first start to exercise and try to lose weight.
Honestly speaking, this suggestion is often dismissed as being unimportant. Partly, this is due to the fact that it sounds so deceptively mundane, and certainly not as if it is a ‘big secret’ or anything crucial.
But really, finding a workout buddy could be one of the most important things that you ever do to lose weight, and here’s why:
1. Support and encouragement
Inevitably, at various points during your efforts to lose weight, you may feel discouraged. It might be because you’re not losing weight as fast as you hoped, or for some other reason, but if you have someone there who is going through, or has gone through, the same thing, you’re going to find it a lot easier.
2. Competition
Better yet, having someone to ‘compete’ against is definitely a trick that works well with most people. Healthy competition is great, and will help both you and your workout buddy do better as you push each other to greater heights.
Of course, the key phrase here is ‘healthy competition’, and you should never try to use unhealthy means of weight loss just to win!
3. Making workouts a ‘commitment’
Last but not least, if you set a fixed workout time with a buddy, it is more likely that you’ll treat it as a commitment. All too often people end up procrastinating and starting to slide in their efforts.
If you know someone else is waiting for you at the gym though, you’re less likely to do this.
Do you see now just how great it could be to have a weight loss buddy? Go ahead and find out if any of your friends or family are interested, and you could reap the rewards that await you!
